Jaipur is a city that offers something for everyone, whether you’re looking for a nice restaurant, cultural experiences or great shopping. In this article, I will tell you about my personal favorites in the city and what I think are the best things to do in Jaipur.
Here is the article over the top 10 tourist places in Jaipur:
See the beautiful Hawa Mahal – One of the many beautiful places to see in Jaipur!
The beautiful facade of the Hawa Mahal is probably Jaipur’s most famous building. Hawa Mahal was constructed in 1799 and has a total number of five floors decorated with small windows and beautiful details. The building is also known as the “Palace of the Winds” as it got the name from the wind that used to flow through the windows of the building.
If you are interested in architecture and history, then this is a must to write up on your list of the best tourist places in Jaipur!
Among all the places to visit in Jaipur, Nahargarh Fort is one that you simply cannot miss out on. This Jaipur attraction is located on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, offering the best view of the city!
To get here is a bit tough since you have to climb all the way up – but it’s definitely worth it once you get to see the Pink City from above.
This is one of the best places to visit outside Jaipur!
Hot Air Balloon Ride
If you want to go for some Jaipur sightseeing, from above, then this is a great activity for you1
Hot air Balloon safari is conducted by various operators around the city. The ride takes you to see several beautiful places including the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Jal Mahal and many other tourist places in Jaipur.
If you like adventures, then this is definitely one of the best Jaipur attractions for you!
Explore Amer Fort
About a half hour drive from the city center lies the beautiful Amber Fort. This fort was originally a home to Rajput’s Royals until the town of Jaipur was constructed. Amber fort contains several stunning palaces, halls, gardens, and temples which are all worth a visit.
The fort is incredibly beautiful, but a big minus is that they have elephants walking up those steep hills dragging heavy tourists day in and day out. I get so sad to see how these elephants are treated like slaves and are whipped by their “trainers”, and also how they get utilized by people who can not use their own legs to get up to the fort. I am a real animal friend, and when you visit Jaipur or another place where they use elephants for entertainment, I hope and wish that you do not support this kind of animal cruelty.
Eat Indian food at Peacock Rooftop Restaurant
Are you craving for delicious Indian food that has good standards of hygiene, then you should make a visit to the Peacock Rooftop Restaurant! Peacock Rooftop Restaurant is an incredibly cozy restaurant that offers superb food, a friendly atmosphere and a beautiful view over the rooftops of Jaipur.
This restaurant is a bit more expensive than other restaurants in town, but it is well worth the money for the beautiful environment, delicious food and also for the great entertainment provided on some evenings.
I do not recommend eating dishes with chicken at this restaurant and not at any other restaurant in India for that matter because it is very common to get ill with Salmonella.
Visit the famous City Palace – One of my favorites among the top tourist places in Jaipur!
When you visit the stunning City Palace, it is pretty easy to see that the royal family of Jaipur was one of the richest in the country. The massive complex of gardens, courtyards, and beautiful buildings is a mix of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. Inside the City Palace, there is also a museum, an art gallery and several interesting exhibits of royal costumes and ancient Indian weapons.
The City Palace is clearly one of the highlights when it comes to the top tourist places in Jaipur. It’s simply a must for those who are interested in architecture and history.
Another famous and beautiful building is Jal Mahal, the archaeological wonder that’s located 4 km away from Jaipur.
This building is built in Rajput and Mughal style, which symbolizes a friendship between Rajput Kings and Mughal Rulers. Jal Mahal offers a panoramic view of the Man Sagar Lake and also of beautiful Nahargarh hills. The palace is actually a five-story building, but only the 5th floor is visible, the other 4 is under water.
Flying Fox at Neemrana
If you’re one of those people who enjoy a good adrenaline rush, then you should experience Flying Fox at Neemrana.
Feel the thrill as you fly high up above the ground and enjoy the amazing view of nature.
Jaipur Wax Museum
If you’re one of those people who enjoy wax museums, then you’re going to like this one as well! This is the first wax museum in the world that’s set up at a world heritage site (Nahargarh Fort).
Come and see cool wax statues looking like famous Indian people such as; Amitabh Bachchan, Rabindranath Tagore, Maharani Gayatri Devi, Mahatma Gandhi and Deepika Padukone.
It’s a fun museum that you can combine with Nahargarh Fort!
Shop till you drop
Jaipur is a shopaholic’s paradise. It’s the colors, the amazing crafts, the jewelry, the fabrics and the rest of the lovely things that will cause you to become a crazy shopaholic. Wherever you are in town, there’s always shopping around the corner that offers some fantastic souvenirs. To stroll around the shops in Jaipur is one of the top tourist spots in Jaipur and it is also a must for you who are looking for gifts and souvenirs to bring back home to your family and friends.
