Jakarta is a cool city that has much to offer its visitors. In this town, there’re several things to both see and do. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for shopping, spa treatments, a lively nightlife or outdoor activities – Jakarta offers everything.

Shopping in Jakarta
If you’re looking for shopping in Jakarta, then I’ve got good news for you. Jakarta offers a great mix of both luxury and budget shopping. In Jakarta you can stroll around in both fancy shopping malls and cozy outdoor markets – in other words; there’s shopping for everyone in this town. If you want to visit one of Jakarta’s shopping malls, then I recommend; Grand Indonesia and Plaza Indonesia of FX Mall.
Eat local food
One of my favorite things to do in a new city is to taste the local food. In Jakarta, you can eat lots of delicious dishes in the markets and restaurants. I love the food in Indonesia, where Bakso, Gudeg, Satay Ayam and Nasi Goreng are some of my favorite dishes.
Pamper yourself with spa treatments
In Jakarta, you will find an incredible number of spas and spa treatments. Take the opportunity to pamper yourself with a traditional Indonesian massage, manicure, pedicure or just relax at on one of the city’s excellent spas. From luxury to budget – there is something for everyone in Jakarta, regardless of the size of your wallet.

Take a stroll in Pasar Baru
Pasar Baru is the oldest market in Jakarta and is a perfect afternoon activity for you who like to stroll around markets. Here you will find several fun gadgets in a great mix of new watches, fresh flowers, second-hand clothing and beautiful fabrics. Besides shopping, there’s also a great selection of local street food – so make sure you’re hungry when you get there!
Visit the National Monument “MONAS” and the National Museum
Monas is a famous icon of the city and is worth a visit to have a quick look. Nearby Monas lies Jakarta’s National Museum where you can learn about the Indonesian history. The monument and Museum are located in central Jakarta and is open from 8 am to 3 pm every day – except the last Monday of the month!
If you’re interested in the Indonesian history or want to learn some more – then the national museum is a great place to visit.

Visit Glodok – Chinatown
This area is a must to visit when you’re in Jakarta. A lively neighborhood that’s full of narrow streets, street stalls and lovely temples. Here you’ll find just about everything in a fun mix of electronics and traditional snacks. If you’re like me and love to taste local delicacies and stroll around markets, then you’ll also love Chinatown in Jakarta!
Visit Santa Pasar
Pasar Santa is a cool and traditional indoor market in the city. This market is full of nice eateries, small cafes, and shops selling both vintage clothing and old vinyl records. A perfect place to enjoy the local cuisine or a vegan sandwich while watching people passing by.
Experience the nightlife
Jakarta is one of those cities that never sleeps. During the evenings you can see how the skyline lights up by millions of lights and notice both nightclubs and bars that come to life. The nightlife is always lively, and therefore it’s one of the best things to do in Jakarta if you like to party!
Make a day trip to “Thousand Islands.”
If you want to escape the city for a day or two, then I recommend you to visit “Thousand Islands” – a group of islands that are located on the northern coast of Jakarta. At this place, you will find several islands ready for you to explore. Some islands can be reached 1-3 hours by boat from either Ancol or Muara Angke harbor – which is perfect if you only want to make a day trip!
Since there’re so many islands to choose from, I’m sure that you’ll find you favorite. Whether you’re looking for relaxation on the beach or adventures like paragliding or snorkeling – Thousand Islands offer something for you!
