AirBnB is one of my favorite sites when it comes to finding good and valuable accommodation around the world, so I’m happy to share my knowledge and experience about the site with you.
In this article, I will explain everything you need to know about AirBnB and why you should start using it while traveling the world.

What is AirBnB?
AirBnB is a booking site that offers all kinds of accommodation such as apartments, big villas, a room in someone’s apartment and even unusual types of accommodation such as tree/mud houses. AirBnB has today several kinds of accommodations in over 190 countries worldwide. There are over 2 million listings to choose from in different price ranges, which makes AirBnB to a booking site that’s suitable all kinds of travelers.
One of the best things about AirBnB is that you can rent a home away from home when you travel, instead of a hotel room. Then you can have all the comfortabilities a home has such as a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, and living room.
The listings are rented out by private hosts and companies, but mostly by individuals.
How does it work?
AirBnB is the middleman between you and the host. They manage the payment and if there would be any problems during your stay, they’ll help you find a new accommodation (if you contact them).
The platform lets you search through all the listings on AirBnB.com and you can also adapt your search results with different filters. You can choose if you want a private apartment, a house or a shared home in someone’s apartment. If you select ”Entire Place”, you’ll be guaranteed that you’ll have your private accommodation without other guests or hosts.
A shared place often means that you’ll share the apartment/house with your host or other guests, but you’ll have your own room. It’s more like a hostel, but you’re staying in a local home.
The majority of the listings are either an entire place or a shared place.
Another great thing is that you can adjust the filters to show listings that only have specific things such as WiFi, kitchen, balcony, gym and many other amenities. You can also sort out results by changing the price and how many bedrooms/bathrooms you want.
Is it safe to rent through AirBnB?
Yes, it is. Every host and guest must verify with a valid ID before being able to rent/rent out on AirBnB. I’ve used it several times during my travels, and I’ve never had a problem.
What happens if a listing is not as promised?
If a listing is not as promised, then you should contact AirBnB as soon as possible. Contact them within 24 hours and let them know the issue/s about the accommodation and they’ll offer you a new place to stay.
How to choose a good listing on AirBnB:
Before booking your accommodation through AirBnB it’s important to check the reviews from previous guests. If the hosts have good reviews, then you’re good to go, but it also happens that some have bad reviews, and then I would recommend you to choose another place to stay.
The most hosts are great on AirBnB, but like many other booking sites, there can be some places where people have had bad experiences when the staff/hosts have been bad.
What if the host doesn’t have any reviews?
It’s safe to rent via AirBnB, and most likely you’ll have a good experience. Since every host must verify via a valid ID before renting out, it’s safe for you to book the accommodation.
All hosts have been new to AirBnB sometime, so maybe you’ll be that first person leaving a nice review.
A tip is also to contact the hosts before booking if you have any questions.
Why you should use AirBnB:
It’s easy, often cheaper and gives you the experience to stay in a local home in a local area. If you’re traveling a bit longer, then AirBnB is perfect since you’ll get all the comfortabilities a home has. You’re going to be able to cook your own food, have stable WiFi and just enjoy your home away from home.
It’s also great if you’re traveling for shorter trips and if you’re on a budget since you can avoid staying in expensive hotel rooms where you can’t cook your own food.
