Vienna Wine

They make wine in Vienna! Who would have thought?

Vienna is a big producer of wine in Austria and has a history that dates back all the way to 750 BC.

In Vienna, you’ll find one of the biggest and best vineyards in the country, Weingut Cobenzl. Here they produce both red and white wine. They’re especially famous their Cobenzl Riesling Senator 2013, which have been rated to be one of the best bottles of white wine in the country.

You can find these bottles in wine stores, and sometimes in a few supermarkets.

Sacher Torte

The famous sacher torte was invented in Vienna in 1832, and have ever since been a favorite among both locals and tourists.

It’s a chocolate layered cake with a hint of apricot jam, served together with whipped cream. It’s super delicious and worth buying as a souvenir for friends and family.

You can either buy a big sacher torte, a smaller cake, or a piece of the cake to bring back home.

Edelweiss Jewelry

Edelweiss is the national flower of Austria and is often associated with the famous song “Edelweiss” from the movie Sound of Music.

Buying edelweiss-inspired jewelry is a really nice souvenir to buy for yourself or someone you love. They’re not very easy to find, but you can find them in a couple of selected stores in Vienna. You might find some beautiful edelweiss pendants at Swarovski as well!

Mozart Balls

One of the most delicious Vienna souvenirs to buy is Mozart Balls, also known as Mozartkugel.

These marzipan-filled chocolates are the perfect Vienna gift for anyone who loves sweets and treats. They’re one of the most famous candies in Austria since the wrapping foil features Mozart’s face.

If you know someone with a sweet tooth, this is one of the best Vienna souvenirs to buy!

Christmas Market Mugs

If you visit Vienna during Christmas, you have to visit the local Christmas markets. It’s something magical about strolling around the Christmas markets, looking at the local products, eating food, and drinking gluwein.

When buying gluwein, you’ll get a cup that’s yours to keep as a souvenir. The mugs are often good-quality and are also very pretty.

Local Schnapps

Looking to buy a local alcoholic beverage? Go buy a bottle of schnapps! It’s made out a variety of fruits and herbs and can be bought in the local supermarkets or at liquor shops.

If you want to buy something really special and unique, you should try to find a bottle of Enzian schnapps.

Enzian is a flower native to the Austrian Alps, and from the root of this flower, they make schnapps. The Enzian flower is the national flower of the country and is strictly protected, so there are just a limited number of bottles made each year – which means that it’s not so easy to find.

When traveling around the country I would search in local liquor shops, as well as asking the locals for help!
