Our first stop in the Maldives was at beautiful Kuramathi – a dreamy family resort where they have both beach villas and water villas.

Alex and I stayed 2 nights at Kuramathi Island, and we both had a great time. From the food and activities to the spa treatments and environment, we had a fun and relaxing stay with them.

Down below you can read more about my experience in my Kuramathi Review!

Room Standard (Villa Delux Water)

We’re starting off this Kuramathi review with the room standard. Alex and I stayed in one of Kuramathi’s water villas, and it was absolutely amazing. The villa was spacious and it provided everything that we needed during our stay and more. We had a kitchen, a comfy bed, a small couch and a flatscreen TV that we could turn towards the bathroom – so we could lay in the bathtub while watching a movie.

The bathroom was spacious with shower, tub, toilet and much space around the sink area. The villa also provides free toiletries and cozy robes that you can use.

Outside the windows of the bathroom and bedroom, you’ll find the terrace with a magical view of the ocean. At the terrace, you have both tables and chairs, sunbeds, shower, and even a private stair into the ocean. This Kuramathi water villa is gorgeous, and is perfect for you who’re looking for a romantic getaway.

This is what you get when booking a Villa Delux Water

  • Comfy bed with fluffy pillows and soft sheets

  • Kitchen with minibar & wine cooler

  • Couch and Flatscreen TV (with great channels!!!)

  • Bathroom with shower, toilet, bathtub, free toiletries and robes & slippers

Breakfast

There are several places for breakfast at Kuramathi island, but which restaurant that you’re going to depend on where you’re staying and if you’re on full board or All inclusive. I think all breakfast is more or less the same, it’s just the location that’s different. Since we were staying in one of the water villas, we had breakfast at the Farivalhu restaurant, and the food was delicious. There were so many options to choose from and the freshly baked bread was to die for.

You can say that this was my kind of breakfast since they offered fresh salads (sundried tomatoes, olives, and more delicious things) lots of delicious fruit, grilled veggies, whole grain bread and good coffee. And this comes from a person who doesn’t like buffets that much.

Other than that, they offered both continental dishes, local dishes, different styles of eggs (scrambled, omelet, sunny side up and more), yogurt with granola/cereals, juice, and yes… I can go on forever since they had so many good options to choose from haha.

Did I forget to mention that we had a magical view of the ocean from the restaurant where you can see colorful fishes and even stingrays if you’re lucky! We got to see one, and it was beautiful. A tip is to go early for breakfast so you get one of the best tables with a view of the water!

Dinner & Lunch

Lunch

Alex and I had lunch at our restaurant Farivalhu one of the days, where they served a buffet with different kinds of foods.

Our second day we had lunch at Palm – a restaurant that serves Mediterranean food such as pizza, pasta, homemade ice cream and homegrown salads. The food was great, and the salad was really tasty! And I must also give them cred for the pizza, which was one of the best I’ve had in Asia.

Dinner

The two nights we stayed at Kuramathi Island, we had dinner at two of their restaurants. Our first night we had dinner at Inguru, which offers Asian fusion food. We had appetizers, main courses, and desserts, and everything was perfect. I loved the flavor combinations and presentation, and the service was good too! Wished we had some more nights at the resort so we could have tried more dishes at this restaurant.

Our second night we went to The Reef – Kuramathi’s signature seafood restaurant. And yes, we tried the seafood and we were just as happy as when we had dinner at Inguru. Fresh catch of the day with your own choice of sides, sauce, and drinks – just the way we liked it!

It’s hard to say which restaurant that I liked the most since both were so good in their own ways. If you’re staying at Kuramathi, you’re going to stay there for more than two nights, and then you’ll have time to visit more restaurants. If you’re craving Asian food, then Inguru is a perfect choice, but if you want big portions of seafood, then the Reef is the crystal clear choice.

No matter what you choose, I’m sure that your taste buds will enjoy staying at Kuramathi as much as mine did!

Spa

Our last night at Kuramathi, we decided to visit the spa to get pampered with a 60-minute massage. When we arrived we had to fill in some papers and then we went to the changing rooms to put on our robes. Before the treatment, we got to relax in their relax room with a glass of water while watching the view of the ocean.

During the treatment, we both felt comfortable and relaxed, since the staff was really friendly and professional. The massage treatment was very nice, and we both felt relaxed in our bodies afterward.

After the treatment, we went back to the relaxing room and they served us with a cup of tea and some sweets. It was so nice to lay there on a sunbed at night with your hot cup of tea while listening to the sound of the waves and gazing at the stars.

It was a relaxing experience indeed, and next time we visit we’re definitely going for the massage treatment again!

Outside the room

When you’re not in your water- or beach villa, there’s so much to do. The Kuramathi Island Resort have their own sandbank where you can enjoy beautiful sunsets, several fun activities (such as snorkeling and diving), a tennis court, a soccer field, a kids club, several pools, bars, restaurants, a spa, a gym, and much more!

Staff

I loved the staff at this resort. Everyone was so friendly, and you felt relaxed and comfortable around them even though this is a luxury resort in the Maldives. It’s not only that they’re friendly, but their whole look with the Hawaii shirts, flipflops/no shoes, and shorts gives you a more relaxed impression – something that I really like!

WiFi

This Kuramathi review cannot be complete without mentioning the WiFi since that’s something the most people want to know before booking their stay. I was surprised by how good the wifi worked at Kuramathi Island. This was actually my first time in the Maldives, so I had no idea what so ever if it would work or not. The WiFi was pretty fast, to be honest, and we had no problems with uploading our photos on Facebook and our social media channels – so thumbs up for that!

Location

Kuramathi Island Resort is located about 1,5 hour by speedboat from Male Airport. I don’t know how fast it will take by seaplane, but I guess it would be around 20 minutes or so. The island is located in a great location out in the blue surrounded by a reef with colorful fishes!

Summary of my stay

I’m super happy about our stay at the Kuramathi Island Resort. We had a great time with delicious food, relaxing spa treatments, snorkeling, beautiful sunsets, and fun activities.

It’s a great resort in the Maldives, especially if you want to say a bit longer since there’s much to do around there.

Can I recommend you to stay at Kuramathi in the Maldives? YES, I can wholeheartedly do! I would definitely go back.
