When I visited Malta in January this year, we decided to stay at Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort in St. Julian. We stayed there for one night before continuing our trip to Spain. We choose to stay at this hotel because we wanted a delicious hotel breakfast, comfortable bed, and also a spa facility.

Here’s my review of Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort:

Room Standard (Superior Room Queen size)

We booked a superior room with a queen size bed with balcony and view of the ocean. The room was spacious and had a clean bathroom with a tub. The room was provided with everything we needed during our night there, and a great plus was that the room was very bright and there were many lamps to use at night.

We also had a TV with both international and Maltese channels, coffee/tea maker, and a minibar with both drinks and snacks. The room also had an A/C, but the downside was that you couldn’t regulate the temperature, so during the winter, it was a bit too cold.

This is what you get when booking a Superior Room:

  • Comfortable bed
  • Comfortable pillows
  • Bathrobes
  • Balcony
  • Daily cleaning
  • Bathroom
  • Free toiletries
  • WiFi
  • HD TV
  • Air-conditioning
  • Dark curtains
  • Desk
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Breakfast Buffet

Breakfast

The breakfast was good in my opinion, but not great. There aren’t many options for vegans or vegetarians or just for those who like to eat less meat. Except lacking vegan/vegetarian food, they had an ok selection of things to eat – from Maltese sausages and bacon to bread and Yoghurt.

I mean, when you’re staying at a fancier/more expensive hotel you expect delicious breakfast – so I was a bit disappointed by this hotel for that reason. Don’t get me wrong, the breakfast was ok, but if you compare to big hotel chains like Novotel or Hilton, this was a bit of a disappointment.

What to choose from the breakfast buffet:

  • Maltese Sausages
  • Bacon
  • Baked beans
  • Pancakes
  • Bread
  • Cold cuts/bread toppings
  • Cheese
  • Butter & Jam
  • Yoghurt
  • Fruit
  • Coffee
  • Juice
  • Cereals
  • Hot chocolate
  • Tea

Spa Facility

If you’re a guest at Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort, then you get free access to the spa facility in the hotel next door. There you’ll find a sauna, massage, different kinds of treatments, a gym and also an indoor pool and jacuzzi.

The sauna was nice and hot as it should be, but the temperature wasn’t that warm in the indoor pool and jacuzzi – but it was still quite nice if you like to swim. This facility also offers dressing rooms with lockers for you to use for free.

You can borrow towels for free in the reception of Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort.

Staff

The staff was both welcoming and friendly when we arrived at the hotel. They gave us all the information that we needed about the hotel and area and wished us a happy stay.

The staff in the spa facility were also very friendly and provided us with lockers and information about the spa.

WiFi

The WiFi wasn’t as good as we thought it would be. I mean, when you pay for a more expensive hotel they should provide fast WiFi. It worked pretty well in the reception/lobby area, but since our room was located far away, it was a poor connection at times. It wasn’t super slow, but for us who work from our computers, it wasn’t good enough.

But, if you’re just going to Malta on vacation and don’t have to use the WiFi,  then it’s fine! If you need to make a call through the WiFi or something, you can always sit in the lobby!

Outside the room

The hotel has lovely and modern decor, it’s clean and offers a great view of the ocean. There are a couple of seats in the lobby where you can relax, and there’s also an outdoor pool and spa facility for you to use.

Location

Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort is located right next to Paceville in a quite and relaxing area with views of the ocean. It takes less than 5 minutes to reach the party district, shopping malls, and restaurants. If you want to stay central in a quiet area near everything, then this is a great location.

If you want to catch the buses to reach other parts of Malta, then you have to walk for like 10-15 minutes (depending on how fast you walk) to reach the bus stop.

Summary of my stay at Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort

Overall I had a good stay at Marina Hotel Corinthia Beach Resort, but I wouldn’t say that I got a lot of value for my money. WiFi is very important for me when staying at a hotel (since I’m working online) and also the breakfast was quite a disappointment for this kind of hotel. But the rooms were very comfortable, the bathroom was nice and clean, and we loved the balcony with views of the ocean and St. Julians.
