Our last two nights during our recent trip to Singapore we spent at the Scarlet Singapore near Chinatown. The Scarlet is renowned for being Singapore’s first luxury boutique hotel and is located inside a row of old Shop Houses from 1868. This romantic and unique hotel is surrounded by great sights, nightlife, and trendy restaurants.

The Scarlet offers rooms that suit everyone – from romantic suites with private terrace and jacuzzi to simple but beautiful rooms.

Together with Small Luxury Hotels, we had 2 great nights at the Scarlet, and down below you can read more about my experience!

Room Standard (Premium Room)

We got to stay in the Premium Room during our last 2 nights in Singapore, and I liked it a lot. It was a cozy room with a beautiful and unique interior, and we even had a french balcony. The interior was probably the best thing about this room since it was so cool with different patterns and colors – something I’ve never seen before in a hotel!

The bathroom was nice and clean and had all the things that we needed during our stay. They provided us with free toiletries, and we even got bath salt and a scrub pad – which I thought was a nice touch since they had a bathtub.

This is what you get when booking a Premium Room

  • Comfortable bed with soft sheets and comfy pillows
  • Bathroom with tub and shower
  • Free toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, bath salt, scrub pad and more…)
  • Hairdryer
  • Wardrobe
  • Desk
  • Water boiler
  • Safe
  • Wardrobe with slippers and robes
  • Mini-bar
  • Flatscreen TV with channels
  • Phone with WiFi – That you can bring with you while exploring Singapore (a great thing to have)

Breakfast at Scarlet Singapore

The breakfast isn’t included in the hotel price, but for an extra fee, you get to have the breakfast buffet that is served at the hotel. It’s not a big breakfast buffet, but you can find foods like bread, spreads, scones, pie (not sweet), sweets, fresh fruits, bacon, eggs, beans, local food and other things.

To be honest, I must say that this wasn’t my favorite breakfast buffet that I’ve had, but I really liked the pie and the fresh fruits! I don’t eat meat that much, so for me, there weren’t that many options to choose from. But if you eat meat you might like it more than I did.

Outside the room

Since this is a small boutique hotel with 80 rooms, there aren’t many facilities for you to use. I must say that I was surprised that they even had a small gym and also a jacuzzi with sun beds on the second floor. The gym was small but had everything that you need for a morning workout – free weights, treadmill, towels, free water and more.

Later during the day you can go up to the rooftop and enjoy some Italian food, ice cream, or a couple of cocktails. It’s a beautiful rooftop with hanging lights all over and a nice view of the surrounding area. They also have another Italian Restaurant, which is the place where you have breakfast.

Scarlet hotel review

Staff

The staff at the Scarlet was very friendly and helpful towards us. They provided us with everything we needed during our stay and gave us all the information and help that we asked for. I noticed that they always smiled, and were friendly towards their guests – something that I like in a hotel.

WiFi

The WiFi worked great throughout the whole hotel. We used the WiFi at the gym, by the jacuzzi, in the breakfast room on the second floor and, of course, in our own room. With other words – it worked like a charm!

Location

The Scarlet has a great location if you ask me. I really like the area around Chinatown, so in my opinion, the Scarlet Singapore had a perfect location. It was close to Chinatown, to trendy restaurants, nice bars and also buses that take you around the city – what more can you ask for?

Summary of my stay at the Scarlet

I’m happy with our stay at the Scarlet Singapore. It’s a beautiful and unique hotel with cozy interior, friendly staff and a great location for you who want to explore Chinatown and see more than just the area around Marina Bay. Even though it’s a small boutique hotel, they still have a gym and a jacuzzi for their guest to enjoy, and also a nice rooftop restaurant where you can relax at night while sipping on delicious drinks and eating good Italian food.

With all that said, yes, I can recommend you to stay at the Scarlet Singapore if you’re looking for something unique and cozy near Chinatown during your stay in beautiful Singapore.
