Poznan is the capital of the Wielkopolska region of Poland and is in my opinion, one of the most beautiful towns in the whole country. Poznan has played a major role in Poland’s history and is today filled with several historic places, beautiful old buildings, great restaurants, and cozy cafés.
If you’re thinking about going to Poznan, but not sure what to do or see there – then this is a great list for you!
Here are the top 8 things to do in Poznan:
Table of Contents
Stroll in Old Town
One of the things that one simply cannot miss is to stroll around the old city center of Poznan. The main attraction is the old market, which is a beautiful medieval place with colorful houses with amazing details. All around old town you will find cozy cafés, great restaurants and trendy bars for you to enjoy!
Wandering around the old parts of Poznan is like stepping into a fairytale, and it’s definitely one of the best things to do in Poznan.
Jeżyce
Jeżyce is one of the coolest neighborhoods of Poznan that lies outside the city center. This area offers cool street art, laid-back cafés, and a hipster student vibe.
Jeżyce is easy to reach by tram, so if you have more than 1-2 days in Poznan then I recommend you to visit this place!
Malta Lake
During summer time, Malta Lake is the place to be. The locals of Poznan just love to chill by the water, go rowing and do toboggan! During winter it’s also possible to ski here!
Eat Local Food
While you’re in Poznan, you have to try typical Polish food and eat at some of their best local restaurants! Eat the local food is seriously one of the best things to do in Poznan. The famous Pierogies is a must to try at least once, but don’t go and eat it every day since there’s so much more to explore in the food-world of Poznan!
Toga Restaurant and Vine Bridge Restaurant are two of the restaurants that I recommend for you. Both restaurants offer a nice atmosphere and super delicious Polish food!
Pamper yourself at a Spa
If you want to have a nice massage while staying in Poznan, then I can recommend you to visit Thai Smile. This place offers traditional Thai massage right in the center of town.
The staff is professional, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the service is excellent! If you want to get rid of your knots in your back, then this is one of the top things to do in Poznan for you!
Shop at the Old Brewery 50 50
The Old Brewery was built during the 19th century and is today one of the most recognized buildings of Poznan. Today, it’s a commerce and arts center – and here you can enjoy several shops, beer gardens, clubs, an arts center and also stay at the Old Brewery’s hotel.
Imperial Castle
The former Imperial Castle was built during the 20th century and is today the last and youngest monarchical residence in Europe.
After World War 1, the castle housed the Mathematical Department of the Poznan University – whose alumni broke the code of the German ciphering machine, Enigma. During World War 2, the castle was remodeled and made into the official quarters of Adolf Hitler.
The Imperial Castle is today a beautiful building with a rich history and offers many exciting exhibitions for you to explore!
See the Billy Goats at Noon
Right it the middle of old town you’ll find the beautiful Renaissance Town Hall. The year of 1551 a clock was installed in the tower of Town Hall with mechanical billy goats. Today, these goats are a big attraction in Poznan. Every day at noon, a door opens above the clock, and two billy goats appear and start butting heads.
