Whenever you get to a new country, it’s a new experience on how to get around. Most bigger cities have similar ways of transportation, such as Metro, Train, Buses or Taxis. But when you get to secluded islands there are often no real roads, or the roads will be very limited.

That’s true all over the world, the more remote you get, the less frequent public transportation you’ll get. Whenever I visit islands I prefer to rent a scooter.

It’s a certain freedom to be riding a scooter. Easy to park, easy to get through, and you don’t really need good roads to reach your destination. Driving a scooter or motorcycle gives you the opportunity of being adventurous. That’s something rare today in many places. So it’s always fun when you get to these places where it’s possible to ride a scooter!

So far I’ve mainly done it on some Greek Islands, and also in Thailand. In Greece, it’s easy to rent a scooter, and there’s no hassle when returning it. The Greek islands are often also the perfect size to be exploring with a scooter instead of a bigger car.

  • Freedom
  • Easy to reach places
  • Cheap
  • Exciting and adventurous
  • Scooters are often very cute (like the turquoise one in the photo)
  • You can be 2 on most of them
  • A great alternative if it’s less than a 2-3 hours drive.

Parking spaces are not everywhere, but if you have a scooter, you don’t have that problem. You’re free and can be a lot more flexible on where you stop and take photos.

It’s also a lot of fun, and it’s safe as long as you have the right gear. Helmets are a must, and these can be rented at most places. But not everyone rents scooters or motorcycles at the destination. Many who owns a bike also bring it abroad, and it that case you should now where to buy spare parts and so on. At

Helmets are a must of course, but these can be rented at most places. However, not everyone rents scooters or motorcycles at the destination. Many who owns a bike also bring it abroad, and it that case you should now where to buy spare parts and so on. At Bikebandit.com you have Bridgestone motorcycle tires for sale, just to make an example.

In the future, I hope to go to more places where it’s suitable to be driving a scooter. I have heard great things about Bali, and also some other parts of South East Asia where you can reach some really cool destinations via Scooter. If you rent a car it’s a lot more difficult to access these places, so when we visit Asia next time, I will definitely rent a scooter.

It wasn’t that bad in Thailand, and I never felt unsafe. We rented a scooter at Koh Lanta, an island in the Southern Part of Thailand, close to Krabi and Phuket. So, I think it will be fine to rent one in Bali as well!
