Nyhavn – My favorite among the top things to do in Copengagen!

Nyhavn is no doubt Copenhagens most cozy district, and it is also my favorite place in the whole city. Nyhavn is known for its colorful houses, boats and all the cozy restaurants and outdoor cafes along the waterfront. Nyhavn also offers plenty of small, charming shops and boutiques and entertainment of street performers. A stroll around Nyhavn is one of the top things to do in Copenhagen, and it is a must to visit during your stay. 

Strøget

Strøget is the heart of Copenhagen. The walking street reaches about 1.1 kilometers from the Town Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv. Along the pedestrian street, there are shopping that suits everyone’s needs and also many cafes, bars, and restaurants. The shopping at Strøget is really great and offers both international stores and local shops and also several exclusive stores like Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Gucci and much more. Strøget is a must when you’re in Copenhagen!

Copenhagen Tivoli

This amusement park is located right in the center of the city and is one of the most popular things to do in Copenhagen. Every year, this park has around 4 million visitors. The Copenhagen Tivoli offers rides for both children and adults and also a lot of other fun activities! Also, every year during the Christmas season they host a vast and festive Christmas market.

Glyptoteket

Glyptoteket is a major art museum in Copenhagen. Here you can stroll around and see account paintings and sculptures from around the world. Most of the art comes from Egypt, Greece, France, the Near East and Italy. If you are interested in art, history, and culture, then a visit to Glyptoteket is a must since it is one of the top things to do in Copenhagen. The exhibitions in the Museum can vary so it can be good to check in advance if any exhibits seem extra appealing to you. 

Flea market

There are many good flea markets in Copenhagen where you have chances for great bargains. The flea markets in Copenhagen is every Saturdays and Sundays. Two of the largest and most popular flea markets are “Remisen”, which is located indoors nearby Trianglen in Østerbro and “den blå hal” that have a total area of 2000 square meters. The markets offer a broad range of clothes, old things, collecting objects, novelties, souvenirs, handicrafts and much more!

Freetown Christiania

Christiania is a free state in central Copenhagen and is today a haven for people with alternative lifestyles. Here they sell both marijuana and hash, and it is legal to try it inside Christiania. The police tried for several years to get rid of the Freetown, but they eventually gave up since there where more and more people who joined Christiania. The district is very popular among tourists, and it is also possible to go on a guided tour there.

Visit a castle

There are many castles in Denmark, and you can find several of them both in the city center and the suburbs around Copenhagen. Amalienborg is Denmark’s royal palace, and this is where the royal family lives. When visiting Amalienborg, you have to see the changing of the guards, which is a popular attraction for tourists.

Other castles that are worth to visit are Rosenborgs castle, Christanborgs castle and Frederikborgs castle. As there are so many castles in the city, you have to at least visit one of them as it is one of the top things to do in Copenhagen. 

Vor Frelsers Kirke

Vor Frelsers Kirke is located in Christianshavn and it is a classic attraction in the city. The church was built in a baroque style of red stone and is characterized by its black and golden spire that looks like a spiral staircase. It is possible to walk up this spire and when you finally reach the top you can enjoy a spectacular view over Copenhagen. 

Bakken

Bakken was built in 1583 and is today the oldest amusement park in the world. Bakken is located in the lush woodlands of Jægersborg Dyrehave and has beautiful green areas that are surrounded by mature trees and free-range deer. This beautiful area is a perfect spot for a cozy picknick or a horse carriage ride before or after a visit to the historic amusement park. Bakken is great if you are traveling with your kids as it’s not that far from Copenhagen. This amusement park offers 33 roller coasters, Ferris wheels, many kinds of games and much more for both children and adults!

Eat Smørrebrød at Schønnemann

The typical Danish dish “Smørrebrød” is something everybody should try at some point in life. The best place to try this traditional dish is at the famous restaurant Schønnemann, which is extremely popular among tourists and locals. There are many different kinds of Smørrebrød, so you just have to pick and choose! The prices are also reasonable and starts around at 50 DDK.
