Do you want to know more about Heliotopos in Santorini? Alex and I visited this hotel in 2017 and stayed for two nights.

We had a great time at Heliotopos. From the delicious food and comfortable rooms to the friendly staff and beautiful views – we truly had a wonderful stay at this hotel.

Down below you can read more about our stay at Heliotopos and useful information before booking:

Our room “Suite with Sea View”

The suite was spacious and had everything we needed during our stay, and it was nicely decorated with the classic blue and white details.

When entering the front door there’s a small hallway leading into the bedroom / living room area. To the left in the hallway there’s a big bathroom with free quality toiletries, towels, and a hairdryer.

The bedroom and living room featured a big bed, a sofa, closet, and a table with chairs. From this room you can step outside to the balcony where you have a view of the sea, Skaros Rock and the beautiful village of Oia.

The bed was very comfortable with soft Egyptian cotton sheets and four fluffy pillows. The best part about this bed was the mattress heater, which was a nice touch since it could get a bit chilly at night during spring.

What you get when booking a “Suite with Sea View”

Breakfast

I loved the breakfast at this hotel. They had great options with everything from omelet, cheese, and fresh veggies to Greek yogurt with honey, freshly squeezed orange juice and all different kinds of cakes!

One morning they served a chocolate mousse cake with berries that was so delicious. I’m still craving it until this day.

I also thought that it was nice that they offered you to have breakfast in the room. It was so nice to sit in our robes at our balcony while enjoying the view of the sea.

Just check out the photos below and imagine yourself eating breakfast with that ocean view – I can tell you that it was a great experience!

What you can choose from the breakfast buffet:

  • Omelet
  • Pie
  • Fresh veggies (corn, olives, cucumber and tomato)
  • Cold cuts and cheese
  • Bread (dark and white)
  • Different kinds of marmalade, pastes, and jam (loved the kiwi marmalade and the sundried tomato paste from Santorini)
  • Fresh fruit
  • Greek Yoghurt
  • Honey
  • Cereals
  • Dried fruits (apricots, plums, bananas, and more)

Outside the room

The hotel is very nice with various areas where you can hang out and relax.

In the upper part of the hotel they have the reception, breakfast/dinner area, pool, and also the Wine Bar where you can enjoy dinner while watching the sunset.

The lower part of the hotel is mostly hotel rooms, but it’s also here they have the rooftop where you can take beautiful photos. Down by the studios/suites you also find the hiking path that takes you to both Fira and Oia.

Rooftop

I loved that Heliotopos had a private rooftop that we could access to take some photos. Not all hotels in Santorini offers that, so that was something I really liked about this hotel.

From this rooftop you have a great view of the ocean, Imerovigli, Oia and the famous Skaros Rock.

The staff at Heliotopos

The staff is very friendly, service-minded and speaks good English. They made us feel welcome and told us everything we needed to know during our stay. They helped us with our bags to the hotel room and wished us a nice day every time we walked pass the reception.

Alex and I especially loved the girls in the reception and the guy serving the food in the Wine Bar – they were all just so kind!

The Wine Bar – Dinner & local wine with a view

Heliotopos Wine Bar is a nice place to eat dinner, drink wine, and enjoy the beautiful sunset. The food is very fresh and tasteful, and they offer an excellent selection of wine and drinks.

The first night we had local fava with onions, capers, and bread. For main course I had the pasta with tuna and capers cooked in white wine, and Alex had the Shrimp ”SAGANAKI” with feta cheese and tomatoes in ouzo sauce.

To our meals we had two glasses of local wine (Mavrotragano & Mandilaria) and also chocolate lava cake with ice cream and sweet wine for dessert.

Although we really enjoyed the food and drinks that we had the first night, we still wanted to try something new from their menu our second night. The second night we had the Cretan Dakos ”with a twist of Santorini” and a Quinoa Salad with yogurt, honey and tahini sauce for appetizers.

For main course, I had pasta with veggies in red sauce and Alex had Pork with sundries tomatoes and halloumi cheese. Everything was delightful, and we also tasted different kinds of wines than we had the night before (Earth and Sky & Skalani).

The waiter in the Wine Bar is very friendly and gives you great advice on what kind of wine to choose, and also makes sure that you have a wonderful time dining at their restaurant. It was indeed a great food experience!

WiFi

The Wifi worked great throughout the hotel. The only thing was that there were different wifi usernames, but that wasn’t really a problem since the password was always the same – except in the Wine Bar.

Location

Heliotopos is located in the cozy village of Imerovigli on the North side of the island.

From this hotel you have both restaurants, cafés, and bars within a short walking distance, as well as the famous Skaros Rock.

Just outside the hotel you’ll also find the hiking path that takes you to both Fira and Oia. Hiking is one of the most popular things to do in Santorini, so that’s definitely something I recommend you to do if you have enough time on the island.

Five minutes away by foot you’ll reach the bus stop where you can catch buses to Fira and the beautiful villages of Oia and Pyrgos.

Oia

Oia is located only 10-15 minutes away by bus

Summary of my stay at Heliotopos

I must say that we had a great time staying at Heliotopos in Santorini. The hotel was even more beautiful than we expected, offered delicious food, incredible views, and the staff was very friendly and helpful during our stay.

I loved the pool area outside the reception and that you could eat a delicious dinner every night with a view of the ocean. It was also nice that we could have breakfast in our room – which is so far one of the best breakfast experiences ever.

I can highly recommend you to stay at this hotel when exploring Santorini. The price is great for what you get!
