As one of the biggest and most famous cities in the world, New York does not disappoint when it comes to things to do. The Big Apple offers a great variety of different cultures where skyscrapers meet lush parks and cool rooftop bars. The famous New York quote ”the city that never sleeps” is so true, since there is always something that’s going on in the Big Apple!

In this article, you will find my best tips of things to do in New York and all the sight and places that are worth a visit! Enjoy!

Here is the list of the Top 14 Things to Do in New York:

Shop at 5th Avenue

If you’re a shopaholic, then 5th Avenue is the place to be for you. This street stretches through Manhattan and is filled with lots fun stores! Here you will find a great variety of shops with everything from international stores such as H&M and Uniqlo to more exclusive stores like Prada, Chanel, and Balenciaga.

Explore Brooklyn

Brooklyn is my absolute favorite area in New York! This trendy area offers cool cafés, cozy bars, and great restaurants. It’s also here you will find many incredible pieces of street art!

To just take a stroll or spend a day or two in Brooklyn is a must while visiting the Big Apple!

See the Lion King show on Broadway

One of the most popular things to do in New York is to go and see the famous Broadway Show – the Lion King. This colorful and happy musical is a must to see if you’re a big Lion King fan, like me.

This show is very popular, so the tickets sell out fast. Buy your tickets in advance to be sure that you get good seats! One tip is to get there the same day (early morning) to buy ”last-minute tickets,” which is much cheaper than if you buy in advance.

Make a day trip to Coney Island

If you have a couple of days in New York, make sure to make a day trip to Coney Island. Coney Island offers a popular and classical amusement park, a lovely boardwalk and a beach if you feel hot a warm summers day.

Take the Staten Island Ferry

One of the most famous monuments in New York is the Statue of Liberty – a must to see when you’re in town! To visit the island is in my opinion not worth it, as it’s foremost very long queues to get there. To ride the Staten Island Ferry is free of charge if you have a metro card (which you will need in NYC). While riding the ferry, you get an excellent view of the statue of liberty and also a nice boat ride!

Visit Times Square

The busy Times Square is a cool place that’s surrounded by sky high skyscrapers, blinking billboards, lots of people and street performers. Times Square is such a place that offers everything and is worth a visit to just have a look around.

Except feeling small beside the skyscrapers and the perfect opportunity for people watching, Times Square also offers great shopping. Here you can check out stores such as Forever21, Disney Store (my favorite!!), several souvenir shops and so much more!

Stroll around in China Town

To take a stroll in China Town is an excellent way to see one of the many cultures of New York. If you’re interested in Chinese culture and food, then this place is a must!

If you’re lucky to be here during Chinese New Years, then you will see the best side of China Town in New York. During this day whole China Town transforms into a big festive place filled with colorful parades and people dressed out as dragons.

If you’re craving for real Chinese food while in town, then this is the best and most affordable place!

Take a walk in Central Park

This classical sight in New York is a must to visit during your stay. Central Park is a green oasis of lush nature, lakes, and squirrels that like to have a bite of your food.

This is a great place to flee the big city life and relax for a while. Here many people come to enjoy lovely picknicks, go for a jog or just a nice walk in this green area.

Shop til you drop at Century 21

Once again, if you love to shop, then this is one of the best places to be! That great outlet sells a great variety of designer brands where you can find many bargains. Here you can find popular brands such as Adidas, Nike and Ralph Lauren at low prices.

Watch the sunset and New York Skyline from Brooklyn Bridge Park

Do you want the best view of Manhattan? Then you have to visit Brooklyn Bridge Park! From this park, you get a fantastic view of Manhattan with the sky high skyscrapers along the seafront.

As a photographer, this is one the best spot to take cool shots!

Go Rooftop hopping

One of the most popular things to do in New York is to visit (at least) one of the many cool rooftops in town! Buy a delicious and cooling drink and enjoy the lovely views of New York.

There are several rooftop bars to choose from, everything from casual to fancy.

My favorites are Pod 39, Penthouse 808 and Bar SixtyFive at Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center.

Visit the Ground Zero Monument

The 9/11 attacks shocked the whole world and are one of the most tragic events in the American history. The Ground Zero Monument was built in memory of all the people who died in the collapse of World Trade Center the 11th of September 2001. A beautiful monument that is a must to visit during your days in New York.

Walk over Brooklyn Bridge

My favorite bridge in New York is the beautiful Brooklyn Bridge. This is one of the most popular sights in town and offers one of the best views in New York. A must is to walk over Brooklyn Bridge and enjoy the view!

Go and see a Yankees baseball game

One of the most classic things to do in New York is to go and see a Yankees baseball game. This is one of the most popular things to do in New York among both locals and tourists. Just the feeling of sitting in the Yankee Stadium is a cool feeling.

Why I recommend a baseball game and not a basketball game is because the price is much cheaper, which is perfect for an evening activity. The price range depending on which team they play against and which seats you prefer – but you can find seats as low as 8 dollars!

NOTE: You walk through a security control before entering the stadium, so you can’t bring things such as computers or water bottles inside.

Visit Top of the Rock or Empire State Building

To visit Top of the Rock or Empire State Building is a must to do while in New York. From the 86th floor of the Empire State building you get fantastic views of Manhattan, and from the Rockefeller Center you get a great view of central park and the many skyscrapers of New York.
