See Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal is one of Jaipur’s top attractions and a must visit when you’re in the city. This building dates back to 1799 and consists of five floors adorned with small windows and beautiful details.

This building is also known by the name “Palace of the Winds” – a name it received from the wind that blew through the small windows.

If you are interested in architecture and history then it’s a must to add this attraction to your list of things to do in Jaipur.

Visit the Galta Ji temple

Galta Ji is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage located about 10 kilometers outside the city. This place consists of several temples which are built into the hills around Jaipur.

It’s a beautiful place outside the city where you can take lots of nice photos, explore old temples and see wild monkeys that lives near the temple.

Eat Indian food

One of the best things to do in Jaipur is to eat delicious Indian food. There are so many dishes to eat in Jaipur and several nice restaurants to visit.

When traveling around India, I recommend avoiding ordering dishes with chicken, since there’s a risk of salmonella. I have myself been sick from salmonella after eating at one of the nicer restaurants in Jaipur, so be careful!

However, one of the most popular dishes to eat in Jaipur is Rajasthani Thali. It’s a large plate with several small side dishes – including curries, bread, rice, vegetables, and various chutneys.

Rajasthani Thali is really good so make sure to taste it!

Visit Chand Baori

Chand Baori is a stairwell located in the village of Abhaneri outside Jaipur. It’s a perfect day trip since it only takes around 2 hours to go there.

It’s an impressive well with parts dating back to the 7th century. It consists of 15 storeys and has 3500 steps that you can walk around on.

Chand Baori is 30 meters deep, making it one of the largest and deepest wells in India.

Explore Amer Fort

About half an hour outside Jaipur, you’ll find the beautiful Amer Fort. It was once the home of Rajput’s royalties until the city of Jaipur was built.

Inside Amer Fort you can see several amazing palaces, gardens and temples.

The only thing I don’t like about this place is the elephant riding. Elephants are forced to carry around heavy tourists up and down the steep roads. Elephant riding is something that I do not recommend you to do when you are in India, it’s extremely bad for the elephants’ backs and is pure animal cruelty.

Visit the City Palace

When it comes to things to do in Jaipur, the City Palace is a must visit. This complex consists of beautiful gardens, courtyards, and fine buildings of both Rajasthani and Mughal architecture.

Inside the City Palace you can stroll around several impressive rooms with beautiful details, visit a museum, visit an art gallery and see several interesting exhibitions with royal costumes and weapons.

This is no doubt one of the highlights in Jaipur, and is a must visit if you are interested in history and architecture.

See Jal Mahal

Jal Mahal is one of the most beautiful palaces in the city and is located in the middle of the lake Man Singh.

The palace was built during the 1750s by Maharaja Madho Singh to become a hunting lodge. He used it to rest after being out hunting.

One of the most interesting things about this palace is that it has four floors hidden under the water. In addition to this, the palace also offers a fantastic view of the lake and the mountains.

Next to City Palace you’ll find Jantar Mantar, an observatory built by Jai Singh II in 1728.

This place consists of a collection of astronomical instruments and is today on the UNESCO World Heritage List in India.

It may not look like it’s something special, but it’s actually an interesting place. Make sure to go here with a guide who can explain how each astronomical instrument works.

Nahargarh Fort is located on the edge of Aravalli Hills and offers one of the best views of the city.

Back in time, this fort was a strong defense for the city along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort. It was built in 1734 and was called Sudarshangarh Fort back then, but later got the name Nahargarh.

This is no doubt one of Jaipur’s best attractions, so make sure to visit when you’re in the city.
